This background shader is an improvement over the built-in "Background Image" trueSpace4 has in two ways; firstly, it offers tiling abilities, and secondly, as of writing the tS background image does not render perfectly; artefacts are visible.  While this might not be much of a problem all the time, it is a big problem when compositing over a background plate where you need to match things perfectly.  See the example for a comparison.
